PELICAN SHIELD 2.0

The "Shield Kevlar” is a top selling phone case for Case-Mate / Pelican. I had the opportunity to expand on this product line, creating a refresh for the Shield design language.

Early generation Pelican Shield phone case.

The current Pelican Shield Case is a top seller for the brand. The new design language reintroduces materials like kevlar, and decorative screws.

Mood-boards referenced ancient forms of support and protection like castle walls and buttresses. CMF references included cycling body armer, exhaust heat shields, and powder coated finish textures.

Visual Branding Language

Carbon Fiber elements, and bumped out corners with either real or injection molded screws serve as the main visual elements. Pelican also uses a “dual band“ treatment on most products, referencing the way early trunks and cases are constructed.

Final Products

While the Shield 2.0 project pivoted many times in development, the effort successfully brought the airTag case and a smartphone case to market. The airPod case and watch band remain as off-tool prototypes.
